4-Laning Widening of Mount Lehman Road and transport capacity to the Abbotsford International Airport

Abbotsford, BC

The Chamber is pleased with today’s government announcement on the completion of the Mt. Lehman Road 4-Laning Project that will facilitate the safe flow of traffic and cyclists. This supports much needed regional transportation capacity and enhanced connectivity to our thriving Abbotsford International Airport.

The project included widening Mount Lehman Road from two lanes to four, adding new bike lanes and sidewalk, enhancing lighting and improving the Simpson Road, Marshall Road and Marshall Road Extension intersections. The upgrades were completed in November 2019.

We celebrate this accomplishment along with our community and commend all three levels of government for their strategic investment. The Chamber will continue to advocate for such projects with key partners as we address our growing business community and transportation needs.

“The completion of this project is a critical step towards more transportation capacity needed for Abbotsford, the Fraser Valley region and broader Metro Vancouver area.  Abbotsford is the largest city in the Fraser Valley, it’s population and business community continues to grow, as does the volume of passengers at Abbotsford International Airport, with over 1 million passengers served last year.  Investments to increasing the safety and capacity of traffic flow, in particular for the Trans-Canada Highway #1 and related projects, must continue through these kinds of strategic partnerships.” – Katerina Anastasiadis, Executive Director Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce.
