Abbotsford Chamber CEO, Alex Mitchell, recognized on BC Business’ list of top talent

Alex Mitchell is one of 30 British Columbians to be named to BC Business’ Top 30 under 30 list, featuring the Province’s leading young entrepreneurs, executives, and innovators

ABBOTSFORD, B.C. – The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce’s CEO, Alex Mitchell, has been recognized on the annual BC Business Top 30 under 30 list for her leadership and commitment to community impact.

The award celebrates young leaders who collectively represent a promising future for British Columbia and are paving the future of the economy.

“On behalf of the Board, we’re thrilled to see our CEO, Alex Mitchell, receiving this prestigious recognition. Alex is a respected voice in Abbotsford and across the region, and has deep connections in our local community,” said Craig Toews, President of the Chamber Board.  “Over the past months of her leadership at the helm of the Chamber, Alex has reinvigorated our organization and positioned our network for greater success and regional impact.”

The BC Business Top 30 under 30 program is awarded annually and winners are selected by BC Business Magazine.

Background – Alex Mitchell Bio 

Alex Mitchell is a seasoned communicator and public affairs professional with a decade of combined communications, public affairs, and economic development expertise. She leads the team at the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, ensuring that the voice of Abbotsford’s business community is heard at every level of government.

Prior to joining the Chamber, Alex was an Account Director with Hill + Knowlton Strategies, a leading global agency in public affairs and communications where she has provided leadership on crisis communications files, executed national media campaigns for some of the Country’s largest corporations, and delivered strategic counsel for executive leaders on media relations and corporate reputation.

Alex brings a robust understanding of intergovernmental affairs and advocacy with a strategic approach that is informed by her previous roles in the municipal economic development space with a focus on sector development in clean technology, agriculture, and ag-tech. She formerly led public relations at the City of Abbotsford, honing her expertise in how to effectively speak to government and advance complex initiatives facing businesses and residents of Abbotsford, while building positive and effective relationships with the Provincial and Federal governments.

Alex holds an MBA from Simon Fraser University and a BA in political science from the University of British Columbia. She was a fellow in SFU Beedie School’s Social Innovation Lab (RADIUS) and a ’10 Weston Loran Scholar.  She is passionate about community involvement and serves on a number of local boards and initiatives.
