The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce attended the BC Chamber AGM in Nanaimo, passing two key policy resolutions on industrial land supply and flood infrastructure by the provincial Chamber network.
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
(Abbotsford, BC) June 20th, 2025 – The Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce was proud to advocate on behalf of Abbotsford and the Fraser Valley at the BC Chamber of Commerce Annual General Meeting and Policy Conference earlier this month. Represented by President Paul Penner, Vice President Sam Varing, and CEO Alex Mitchell, the Abbotsford Chamber team advanced two policies aimed at addressing key regional challenges:
- Increasing Industrial Land Supply – Conduct a review of agriculturally zoned land to address the need for industrial land to enable economic activity.
- Floods: An Emerging Economic Threat Requiring Action – Establish a funding contribution protocol to invest in critical infrastructure in areas at risk of flooding.
Both policies were successfully adopted by the provincial Chamber network. The flood infrastructure resolution, which underscores the urgency of protecting B.C.’s vital agricultural lands, received unanimous support from the floor. The Chamber plans to advance this policy to the Canadian Chamber of Commerce policy forum this October. This is a continuation of the Chamber’s continued commitment to championing infrastructure investments to protect critical agriculture land. Since the 2021 flooding of Sumas Prairie, the Chamber has been a leader in the Abbotsford Disaster Relief Fund and persistent through advocacy at the federal level.
Abbotsford’s continued engagement at the provincial level ensures that the voices of Abbotsford businesses are at the table to shape provincial business advocacy to government. These policies allow Abbotsford to continue to push for pro-business changes in B.C.
